Prostitutes, cannabis and stag dos, while all still hosted by the city of Amsterdam, have long been sinking into the back of people’s minds when they think of The Netherland’s capital. These days it’s more the canals that stretch around the city reflecting Dutch Baroque buildings that hold a firm mental image.

Cafés settle on the ground floor where regulars spill out onto the pavement, sipping everything from a mid-afternoon espresso to a powerful red wine late into the night. You might be pulled in by any number of museums, home to everything from Rembrandt to Banksy, but you’ll keep coming back for the easy-going and creative food scene where every “must-try” dish is a walkable distance from the last.
