reflections on Reading 2022

On our book club page is a selection of writing that has influenced travels, and exploration in wine. The aim is to get a deeper understanding of cultures when visiting new places and to have a contemporary native voice speak on the setting (where possible). Outside of that are a handful of books that did not fit into this format, but were still hugely influential on our year.

Some of this writing was secondary reading to those travels, but not all. Having moved from London to Singapore there was a draw towards South East Asian writing, especially in terms of food writing and cookbooks. We also lean towards the female voice, especially when looking at more recent fiction and memoir.

We did read other books in 2022 but these highlight the best of what was read. In some cases these are widely recommended works but others, in our opinion, have flown largely under the radar. Either way, these did not necessarily come out in the last year - but were new to us in 2022 and hopefully some will be new to you.
